The Oak Beams We Supply

Renovation and replacement beam work undertaken.

  • Low cost trade oak beams specifically for the building business
  • Wholesale oak straight sawn to your spec - for oak framing of any kind
  • THB structural grade green oak beams - for use in any type of building work

All the timber we provide is THB structural grade green oak. Beams are suitable for use as oak cladding or in oak frames for garages, outbuildings, porches, garden rooms, pergolas as well as houses and house extensions.

Our trade oak posts and beams are suitable for internal or external structures and do not require any additional treatment.

Basic Oak Frame Specification

The strength, durability and unrivalled timeless quality of oak have provided inspiration and confidence for centuries. As the frame settles after erection, the joints become tighter and so the building becomes stronger. With each new shake (a crack appearing on the face of timber caused by natural seasoning), new character is born.

The frame will generally be a post and beam structure, i.e. a series of posts, beams, studs and braces supporting a trussed roof system. Floor structures are an integral part of each frame where applicable using Oak chamber beams and Oak joists. Each joint will be traditionally drawpegged using seasoned Oak pegs supplied with the frame. As the peg absorbs moisture from the beams, it expands and so tightens in within the joint.

Frames which require glazing will be machined from kiln dried or air dried Oak so as to avoid distortion and shrinkage due to further seasoning. The glazing frames are usually fitted between the main green supporting posts incorporating an expanding weatherproof seal.
